FACTS ABOUT ANIMALS

Snails, unlike humans, do not follow the norms of night and day. Snails sleep about 13 to 15 hours at a time, on and off. They gain a sudden burst of energy for the following 30 hours, during which time they complete all of their snail duties!

Koalas sleep the longest of all mammals, averaging 20–22 hours each day.

Most ants' sleeping habits are more akin to a power nap than an eight-hour slumber. Workers can take anything from eight minutes of rest per 12 hours to over 250 one-minute naps in a single day, according to several studies; typically at irregular intervals.

Each animal has a distinct muzzle print, similar to how humans have distinctive fingerprints. Although cattle muzzles have been used to identify animals since 1921, the paper claims that current methods, such as printing a muzzle image with ink and paper, are time-consuming.

To keep sand out of their eyes, camels have three sets of eyelids and two rows of eyelashes.

Butterflies use their feet to taste food. Butterflies have taste sensors on their feet, so they can taste a leaf to see if their caterpillars can eat it by standing on it. The flying insects eat liquids such as nectar and juice from fruits, as well as fluids from carcasses.

Rhinos have excellent hearing and smell, but poor vision. Rhinos compensate for their weak eyesight by using their olfactory (smell) and auditory (hearing) senses to detect other animals on an open plain who are less than a hundred feet away.
